As Crackerjack Math s has been so popular with the older children, we wanted to offer something for children who aren’t yet at school to complement their pre-school education.
Our Pre-Schooler club is designed to introduce 3 and 4-year olds to basic maths whilst demonstrating to parents/guardians how they can be making maths fun at home.
Our Pre-Schooler sessions run weekly during term time for 10 weeks. Each 45 minute session is packed full of fun and creates an exciting environment where parents and children can learn together and gain confidence through games, crafts and songs!
WHAT ACTIVITIES WILL WE BE DOING?
The sessions follow a structure that keeps our youngest Crackerjack Maths members engaged for the full 45 minutes.
The sessions begin with 5 minutes of input which is followed by 3 mini-activities, parent and child individual activity, group activity and craft. All of these mini-activities are designed to help consolidate a specific area of maths that is listed in the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework. Each session ends with a number song or story.
PARENT AND CHILD INDIVIDUAL ACTIVITIES
These activities are designed to encourage the parent and child to learn together through games which can be replicated at home. As many parents struggle to know what is expected mathematically of their children at this age, and often don’t know how they can be extending their child’s learning, these mini-activities can be a great learning opportunity for the parents! This could also be one of the first times that children are working on an instructed activity with their parent which can set strong foundations for home learning that often begins in reception.
These games and activities are intended to familiarise the children with turn taking and learning as a group, something that will be expected of them as soon as they start school.
The best way for children to learn is by doing. Every session involves children learning through play or interaction with others for its entirety; however, by adding a craft element it allows the children to create something that they can take home to either continue their learning or to remind them of what they did during the session.
